I Didn’t See That Coming!

On Tuesday March 14th, 2017 the truck was packed up sitting in the driveway ready for our annual trip to Florida. It was supposed to be a combination business and pleasure with a couple of days lying on the beach in St Pete and browsing the art galleries and typical seaside shops. We always try to be good tourists. I only needed to lock the house and retrieve my backpack with the GPS and other electronic gear.

It was cold and rainy and the landscape timber beside my elevated drive way was slippery. When I landed one foot stuck fast and the other didn’t. In a split second I lay on the ground incredulous at what had just happened. Was it just a bad sprain? A bad twist? Surely it wouldn’t be broken after all, there are still three shows left in the show season and I have so much on the drawing board after the season ends that I don’t have time for anything as distracting as a broken ankle and three months in a wheel chair.

As I tried to stand, I saw my ankle move in directions I had never seen before. Ankles are not supposed to hang loose and be all floppy like a chicken wing, or hurt this badly. We got to the ER and X-rays confirmed our worst fears, that the ankle was indeed broken and would require surgery with steel plates and God knows how many screws to repair. The surgeon said absolutely no weight on the broken ankle for 8 to 12 weeks. They operated the same day and I spent 3 days in the hospital.

It has been eight days now and I am enjoying the complications which often follow general anesthesia interrupting the body’s natural waste removal processes. The pain is my constant companion even with the good drugs; they only serve to dull it a little. I’ve been through worse so I’m confident it too will end one day.

I am grateful for my support group. Having been married to a very good Registered Nurse for 48 years has certain benefits as my home care couldn’t be better. I also have folks I can rely on to help with the day to day business activities such as fulfilling orders, etc. I will do my best to resolve issues, but I would ask you to remember it is difficult to be 100% when using powerful pain killing drugs. I will use this opportunity to train and delegate much of the manufacturing processes to others in my organization. We are still on track, but might take longer than we originally planned to roll out certain products.

We appreciate your prayers and continued support and value the opportunity to serve your woodturning needs because wherever you go, there you are.

Here is my inspiration for this message:

Phil 4:13 KJV I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Prov 27:1 NIV2 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Jas 5:14-16 KJV Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I have prepared a very short video showing a typical texturing demonstration which I do for audiences at The Woodworking Shows each weekend this time of year. Although I’ve done many thousands of these, they never get old. I hope you enjoy this three and a half minute video.

Here is a quick tour of our Woodworking Show Booth for 2017. Hope you will come see us when we come to a city near you. https://youtu.be/2Owz3p3axzY

I check email when I'm on the road twice a day. The office phone, not so much. The other office staff have been instructed not to answer questions they are not equiped to handle.

Available again May 2017

I continue to receive many questions about when this family of items will be available for purchase. The answer is after the show season is over and I can focus on manufacturing it. We are currently accepting First-Come, First Served reservations at www.ronbrownsbest.com. No money is due until your reservation is confirmed some time in April 2017. After I get a handle on those first, I'll list it on the web site for general purchase.

We appreciate your interest and will notify you via the newsletter and the web site when you may place your order. Thanks again.
