You Don’t Need A Flashlight In The Daytime

I find encouragement and inspiration in many different places and situations. Sometimes a harmless phrase or innocuous comment will leap out at me. We all like being around like minded individuals and some of us are uncomfortable around strangers. A few of us have a special gift in that we “never meet a stranger”, and are able to make friends virtually anywhere anytime.

The skills we are developing for turning wood and other materials on a lathe are not rocket science once you understand the process, but easily astound and amaze folks who don’t turn. When you are in a room full of other turners, it is pretty easy to be intimidated by someone else’s work and skill. Your individual light may not seem to shine that brightly. However, put yourself in a different situation with non–turners, say a craft fair, flea market, home show, or an exhibition of some kind and you become the veritable Wizard Of Oz so to speak. Now you are the one sucking all of the oxygen out of the room. Your light is shining very brightly.

Everyone has their very own set of gifts and skills. We have chosen to practice and develop ours in the area of turning and lathe work. On this Holiday weekend, I would encourage you to realize that sometimes other folks are sent to answer your prayers and requests. Sometimes you are sent to answer someone else’s prayers. Whether you are the most talented person in the room or not, you are there for a reason. Your light will shine all the more brightly the greater the darkness. Have a great Holiday Weekend wherever you are in this world because wherever you go, there you are.

Here is my inspiration for this message:

Matt 5:15–16 NIV

15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Phil 2:15 The Message Bible

15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.
