My Magic Formula

My entire business career required me to explain projects, concepts, or ideas and most of the time I was making my presentation to more than one person. Not everything fits a formula, but you are going to be amazed at just how often you can use these methods. I follow these steps when I make my

videos, when I do club demonstrations, when I teach classes and when I do presentations on the show circuit. I find these 2 applications almost universal. In fact, I’m using them now!

Presentation format:

Tell them what you are going to tell them (summary) and maybe toss in a goal or objective to be reached at the conclusionTell them your storyHave them tell you what you just said (summary) answer questions and correct misunderstandingsRecap and Close.

Teaching format:

Tell them what you’re going to tell them (summary) and be sure to include the goal or objective to be reached at the conclusion of the classTell them and show them step oneHave them show you to check their understandingDrill for skillRepeat for each step. . .Question and answer timeRecap and close the meeting

The next time you need to explain a complex idea or teach a class of some kind whether woodworking related or not, try using one of these two outlines to build your agenda. I think you will like it. You may have good technical skills, but can you communicate them to your audience? You can now.

Proverbs 22:11 NIV
