Independence Day 2024
As a woodturner, Independence Day holds several points of significance for us. It represents freedom and independence, values that resonate deeply with craftsmen, artisans, and all woodturners I’ve ever met. It's a celebration of our creativity and the ability to express ourselves freely, much like how we express our creativity through creating something beautiful out of essentially firewood.
The history behind Independence Day, including stories of resilience, determination, and craftsmanship from the founding era, can serve as a wellspring of inspiration. Woodturners may find parallels in the dedication and skill of early American craftsmen who contributed to the nation's foundation without the benefit of our modern power tools.
Wood, as a material, has been central to American craftsmanship throughout history. Independence Day can serve as a reminder of the rich tradition of woodworking and the importance of skilled craftsmanship in shaping cultural identity and national heritage.
Independence Day often brings communities together in celebration, backyard cookouts, and midsummer family gatherings. As a woodturner, this can be an opportunity to connect with fellow turners, showcase your work, and celebrate the shared passion for craftsmanship and creativity.
This special day prompts reflection on values such as freedom, creativity, and self–expression. These values are central to the artistic process of woodturning, where each piece represents a unique expression of the artist's vision and skill.
In essence, Independence Day can serve as a meaningful reminder of the artistic freedoms we enjoy as woodturners, the historical context of craftsmanship, and the community that appreciates and celebrates our work. Freedom isn’t free, never was, never will be. Wishing you a great July 4th and remember, that wherever you go, there you are.
Here is my inspiration for this message:
(John 8:32 [NIV2]) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
(John 8:36 [NIV2]) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
(1Pet 2:16 [AMP]) [Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God.
Help preserve this precious freedom by voting on Nov 5, 2024.
