How Trustworthy Are Your Promises?
I just received a note from a customer having difficulty downloading a free document from my website. He questioned if “Free Downloads” really meant free, or if this was just another gimmick. I regret that he was so quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. I am far from perfect and don’t profess to have never made a mistake in the close to 70 years God has granted me on this earth. However, I strive to correct all problems as soon as possible and to correct mistakes 100%. I would never intentionally mislead anyone. My yes means yes and my no means no.
We work a lifetime to build a good name and reputation which can be destroyed in an instant.
(Proverbs 22:1 KJV A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.) Whenever humanly possible, I go out of my way to do the right thing. If I tell you something, I expect you to be able to trust it and know it is 100% true. If I will not be able to keep my commitment, I don’t make it in the first place.
I can only encourage you to do what you say you will do and to develop a reputation for being trustworthy and dependable. It is unfortunate when the leaders we should be able to look up to in this great country are unwilling to keep their promises even when they have signed public documents giving their word. A quick study reveals that this unseemly behavior has been with us a long time, because wherever you go, there you are.
Here is my inspiration for this message:
Eccl 5:5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.
James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Prov 20:25 It is a trap to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider one’s vows.
