I'm Sorry For The Confusion

Friends:

I have had several questions about our new Longworth Chuck Type 2 from owners of the Original Longworth Type 1. I introduced the Longworth Chuck Type 1 back in 2010. The Type 2 was introduced in May of 2018 and is a major advancement in this technology. I have also had questions from Amazing Doughnut Chuck™ owners as to the compatibility with the Longworth Type 2.

If you own one of my Amazing Doughnut Chucks™ with the doughnut rings and the notched rings, they are completely compatible with the same size Longworth Type 2. The Longworth Type 2 is engineered to match up with the outermost bolt holes in the doughnut rings. You will be able to use both modes at the same time (Longworth self-centering and the security of the doughnut ring). The notched rings and the solid rings can be used with the Longworth Type 2 via the doughnut ring top plate. The Amazing Off-Center Chuck can only be used with the Amazing Doughnut Chuck™ as it requires the use of interior bolt holes only found on the Amazing Doughnut Chuck™. The Older Longworth Type 1 is not compatible with any of the new products. You must not modify your Type 1 to accept the doughnut rings. Doing so is dangerous and is strictly prohibited. Phenolic is very stable and very hard, but it is not designed to withstand the lateral pressure from tightening the bolts used to hold a doughnut ring in place. The Type 2 is made from a different material HDPE and will not fail when you tighten the doughnut ring bolts.

Which Chuck Do I Have?

You have a Longworth Type 1 if each disk is 1/4" thick and if you must mount your Longworth in your four jaw scroll chuck. The Type 2 threads directly onto your lathe spindle, the plates are 1/2" thick and there is no white disk (1/8") between the two black disks.

One Amazing Doughnut Chuck™ customer commented that he wished he had waited to get the Longworth Type 2 Combo although he loves his Amazing Doughnut Chuck™. All he needs to do is get the same sized Longworth Type 2 basic and he can use everything he already owns. I made everything backwards compatible on purpose. If we were to wait for the next big thing, we would never buy a new car because next year's model will have things this year's model didn't. You should also know that I have shifted all of the Amazing Doughnut Chuck™ and Longworth Type 2 products over to black HDPE. I no longer use the yellow HDPE.
