If You Are Standing Still, You Are Moving Backwards.
Think about it. If you turn bowls and it is no big deal that is probably because you’ve turned tons of them similar to this one using the same or a similar set of tools, methods and techniques. You probably will finish it with the same stuff. Huh, another wooden bowl. You might be standing still.

If you are not learning something new, or more difficult, or another way, you might just be marking time standing still. New and different might just mean combining two skill sets you already have. I combined my scroll saw skills with my turning skills and created a whole new line of Christmas Ornament Kits. Then I bought a laser to be able to offer you access to the same wonderful creations. I had to learn to operate a new very complex machine which I knew nothing about. I had to learn new design software. I had never worked very much with acrylic, HDPE or ABS. Now I have. I moved forward – a lot.
Ask any five wood turners you know the same question and you will get at least ten different answers. So how many ways have you tried to do the same thing? Experiment with different approaches, different grinds on your tools, different material. Maybe try a different species of wood this time or you might even move over into some of the resin based composite materials.
I am naturally right handed. I’ve turned so much left handed that I can’t tell the difference anymore. You should try it! It feels awkward at first, but it won’t take long before it feels natural. And you will have an occasion where the ability to turn left-handed will come in handy. All I’m saying is a rut is just a grave with the ends kicked out. Don’t get stuck in a rut with your turning. Learning and growing is what keeps our hobby fresh and exciting. Try color, try smaller, try bigger, try different because wherever you go there you are.

This Week's Sale
This year we have assembled 6 different collections. Each collection will have five (5) laser cut Christmas Ornament Kits in it. There will be four (4) different designs and one (1) with a panel representing each of the four designs. Your fifth kit will be a mix of all of the other 4 kits. Some customers already mix and match panels to create their own unique ornaments.
