You Have Incredible Power
Imagine that you have taken up painting. Imagine that Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) who painted The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa looked at one of your paintings. Imagine that he said “I like what you have done with this piece, I think you have some real talent. You should keep going I believe you are going to do great things.” Think how encouraged you would be after hearing those words from someone of that stature; someone who is an accomplished artist and who knows talent when they see it.
If you have been turning for a while you are someone’s Leonardo da Vinci. You are the expert who recognizes good work. You literally might hold someone’s future in your mouth. Be careful when you comment on one of their pieces, no matter how innocent or well-meaning you remarks might be. Take the time to phrase your words so they encourage others. Sometimes your suggestions for improvement might be best left unspoken.
Many years ago when I was just starting out turning I had taken some classes and purchased a respectable lathe. I made one of my earliest Fancy Christmas Ornaments and had it with me at an all-day event featuring Nick Cook and Dale Nish. Nick had recently given me some tips on cutting beads and coves with a small spindle gouge and had even put his special grind on one of my tools for me just because he is a genuinely good guy. Both Nick and Dale were tag teaming the presentation held in the warehouse of a local woodworking machinery dealer in front of about 150 turners. During one of the breaks I showed my ornament to Nick emphasizing the delicate ebony finial I had managed to turn without breaking.
Nick called Dale over to show him my ornament. Dale looked at it and asked if he could buy it!!! I was floored that Dale Nish (founder of Craft Supply in Provo, UT) would be interested in something little old me had made. He said I had done an admirable job and he would like to include it in his personal collection. At that instant, Dale Nish became my Leonardo da Vinci. I can’t help but think that his encouragement helped me go on to become the turner I am today.
Always remember that You Have Incredible Power in your mouth and that what and how you say something can encourage someone to go forward and achieve far more than they ever thought possible. Be aware that this same power has the potential to discourage someone from really blooming into something beautiful because wherever you go, there you are.
Here is my inspiration for this message:
Job 27:4 NIV my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies.
Prov 12:18 NIV The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Jas 3:5 NIV Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

Longworth Chuck Type 2 and the Amazing Doughnut Chuck
THANK YOU!
New Combinations are here.
It Just Make Sense. Finishing the bottom of a vessel, the underside, removing the tenon separates you from the amatures. And everyone looks at the bottom to see what you did. It has always been a pain to work on the underside of an almost finished vessel without destroying it. Large, medium, or small now you can easily and quickly hold them all very securely.
Longworth Chuck Type 2 Combinations now include the Solid Ring Set (See Below) as well as the Big Hole Top Plate, the Standard Doughnut Ring with 6" opening and a complete set of hardware. During this sale, you also receive a free stand and one set of 8 riser rings.
The Amazing Doughnut Chuck line now includes your choice of either a Notched Ring Set or the Solid Ring Set plus the Big Hole Top Plate, Doughnut Ring with 6" opening and a complete set of hardware. During this sale, you also receive a free stand.
If you already have a basic unit from Ron Brown's Best and want to add to your collection, we have options for that too. Everything is backwards compatible within the Amazing Doughnut Chuck line and the Longworth Type 2 family. (Longworth Type 1 is not compatible - Phenolic version)
The Wyoming Woodturner, Sam Angelo has posted an unboxing video I thought you might enjoy.
I've had numerous requests for something to hold smaller vessels when one needs to reverse chuck them; rings without notches. This 6 piece set is designed to be used with the standard top ring with a 6" opening which comes with any Longworth Type 2 COMBO (has the doughnut rings) and also any size Amazing Doughnut Chuck. They are backwards compatable with all Ron Brown's Best Doughnut Chucks.
