The Big Difference
There is one big difference between the folks you see on TV and in Videos and you. You might be more talented, more accomplished and just plain better at something. The big difference is that they are doing it and you are watching. Action vs lip service.
When I’m not the one doing the presenting or demonstrating and I get to be just one of the audience members, I pay attention to not only the demonstrator, but also to others in the audience. I also listen to their comments even when they aren’t necessarily meant for my ears. I hear things like “He’s not that good”, or “I can do a better job than that”, or “That’s easy, my kids could do that.” The big difference is that he is doing it and you are sitting there not doing it.
Presenters and demonstrators might not be the world’s best at what they are presenting, but they cared enough to do the preparation necessary to show others how they do it. And there are always folks who thought they couldn’t do it or who just needed to see that ordinary people could accomplish this project, method, or technique. Every effective demonstration convinces someone to believe that they should try to do it also.
Giving the basic information and steps with a few tips and hints sparingly thrown in tends to encourage folks to try. The finer points can come later or in a one-on-one situation so KEEP IT SIMPLE. I watched a presenter about 13 years ago give an extremely detailed demonstration on making pepper mills and there was a lot of math involved. The process seemed so complicated I was afraid to try making one myself for the next 5 years. It turns out that making standard pepper mills is extremely simple and anyone really can do it successfully. You don’t have to give an encyclopedic presentation sharing every little tiny detail you might have learned about something. You also don’t have to have that vast knowledge about everything there is to know in order to give an effective presentation. If you can explain in simple terms with a logical sequence of steps any process or procedure, you will be an encouragement.
My challenge is that if they can do it, so can you. Will you move to action and do something, or will you just be content to criticize? Because wherever you go, there you are.

Announcing a New Class of Laser Cut Kit Item
4" Inlay
I have been working on this concept for some time now. Please give us a day or two to get this new item posted on the web site at www.ronbrownsbest.com.
These inlays are 4" in diameter x 1/4" thick. They are perfect as inlays in the bottom of a commemorative plate or platter and will even work in bowl bottoms. They can be used as coasters in sets of 4 or more. The perimeter is cherry wood, the inner circle is American Black Walnut and the monogrammed letter is white acrylic.
You can use them for any special occasion such as anniversaries, weddings, new baby, graduation, job promotion, etc. Check the web site as I will be expanding this line to include stock items such as Gold Star Families. Personal info can be added for a small extra charge. I expect to be able to accomodate special requests for personalized copy as needed.
