Happy Labor Day

Labor Day has been a national tradition in America since 1894.  Originally instituted to bolster the morale of trade union members, this holiday has morphed into very different meanings today.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (edited for space)

“The holiday often marks the end of the traditional summer season (although summer doesn't officially end until September 21), as students normally return to school the following week, although school year starting days now vary. To take advantage of large numbers of potential customers free to shop, Labor Day has become an important sale weekend for many retailers in the United States. Some buyers retailers claim it is one of the largest sale dates of the year, second only to the Christmas season's Black Friday.”

My work brings me into contact with folks from all walks of life at every level. Our common bond is always woodworking in general and these days woodturning in particular. We often have other things in common also, but not always.

Although this summer season has been extraordinarily busy for us here at Ron Brown’s Best, I find myself looking forward to the fall of 2015 with a little different perspective.  New milestones have been achieved, larger than ever goals have been met and exceeded; we’ve added new equipment and capabilities that at one time seemed like only a dream. Sweet Janice works with me full time, an absolute dream come true!

For the first time in 10 years I won’t be on the road and away from my family during this holiday season.  I’m already planning on eating way too much turkey and pumpkin pie, holding my youngest grandkids on my knee while pretending to understand the gibberish of an excited two-year-old and the challenges of my 20 something eldest grandbaby.  I welcome the inevitable backache from moving too much furniture in order to make room for everyone around the holiday dinner table and catching up with loved ones busy with their own lives.  But most of all I am grateful for the wisdom and understanding written down for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.  That is the only thing that makes sense out of all the madness going on in the world today.

My prayer for you and for your family this holiday season is that you also would know that peace which passes all understanding and that you would have the boldness to celebrate the true reason for the season. Christmas is about the gifts, or more specifically, the best gift of all. God Bless. Because, wherever you go there you are.

Here is my inspiration for this message:

1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV - So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
