Enthusiasm Is Contagious

Having just returned from SWAT, The South West Association of Turners in Waco, Tx., I am reminded that enthusiasm is indeed contagious and we draw tremendous strength from each other when we come together as like-minded folks. There were around 1,000 attendees, mostly from Texas and surrounding states. I had almost forgotten the sound of Ohhhhaaaaa’s and Ahaaaaaa’s from the crowd as I work my texturing magic before their very eyes. Or, the wonder they express when I apply bright color to the newly textured surface and the expectation of what they will be able to create when they get back to their shop with their own set of texturing tools.

There was time to fellowship with old friends I had not seen in a while, Kirk DeHeer, Tim Yoder, Jeff Farris, John Jordan, Mike Mahoney, Nick Cook, Stan Townsend and so many more that we just don’t see often enough. We made lots of new friends including Carl Jacobson and planned holiday projects. We discovered new methods and added to our favorite widget collections. It is good to assemble ourselves together, to encourage one another and to be refreshed.

SWAT is always right up there as one of the very best events we participate in each year. They treat the vendors like kings and queens. This symposium is very well run and mostly everything is easy. The hours are very long, but all of the vendors I spoke with are happy to be invited. The food is exceptional and there is always plenty for everyone. Although it is almost 1,000 miles each way from Atlanta, we look forward to the trip each year. If at all possible, I encourage you to add this to your Do-Not-Miss list. Sweet Janice and I decided to drive so that we have time away from the tasks of running our business to just be together. We carve out time to discuss where we go from here, to make plans for the upcoming holiday season, to discuss new project ideas and just fall in love all over again (32 hours in a truck can have that effect).

With another year of SWAT under our belt, it is good to be home and to focus on the upcoming holiday season as well as preparing for our 11th Woodworking Show season beginning in January, 2017. I will post this week’s sale offerings on Thursday so stay tuned. I need a few days just to catch up and get back to even. We have several exciting things to share in the coming weeks. I know you are going to like them, because wherever you go, there you are.

Here is my inspiration for this message:
Hebrews 10:25 KJV
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Acts 13:15 NCV
After the law of Moses and the writings of the prophets were read, the leaders of the synagogue sent a message to Paul and Barnabas: "Brothers, if you have any message that will encourage the people, please speak."

Romans 1:12 CEBA
What I mean is that we can mutually encourage each other while I am with you. We can be encouraged by the faithfulness we find in each other, both your faithfulness and mine.

This is my last scheduled demonstration of 2016. Peach State Woodturners in Oxford, Ga. Thursday evening meeting Sept 1st, 2016 More info here: I will be explaining the assembly process we use to successfully glue up the laser cut inlay Christmas Ornament Kits.
